OPTCL Eligibility Criteria

OPTCL Educational Qualification

To be eligible, candidates must have:

  • Passed HSC/10th Class from a recognized board.
  • Obtained a National Trade Certificate in Electrician Trade from NCVT/SCTE&VT with:
    • Minimum 60% marks for UR/SEBC candidates.
    • Minimum 50% marks for SC/ST/PwBD candidates.

Workman Permit

A valid Lineman-MV Permit (with learner permit for Workman-HT) issued by the Electrical Licensing Board of Odisha (ELBO) is mandatory. Candidates without this permit must submit an undertaking and produce the permit at the time of document verification.

OPTCL Age Limit (as of 01.05.2025)

  • Minimum Age: 18 years
  • Maximum Age: 32 years

Age Relaxation

  • SC/ST/SEBC/Women: 5 years
  • PwBD: 10 years
  • Ex-Servicemen: As per service length
  • Contractual workers in OPTCL (via outsourcing): Additional age and mark benefits

Training and Posting Details

Selected candidates will undergo 1 year of training at various OPTCL units including the Power Training Centre (PTC) at Chandaka, Bhubaneswar. Upon successful completion, they will be absorbed as Assistant Technician (NE-4) with a probation period of one year. Posting can be anywhere in Odisha.

OPTCL Salary and Benefits

  • During Training: ₹17,000 per month (stipend)
  • After Training: ₹25,600 to ₹81,200 (Pay Matrix Level NE-4)

OPTCL Selection Procedure

The recruitment process includes two stages:

1. Computer-Based Test (CBT)

  • Duration: 3 Hours
  • Total Questions: 200 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Syllabus Breakdown:
    • Electrical Trade: 80%
    • Numerical Ability, GK, Reasoning: 10%
    • English Language: 10%
  • Marking Scheme:
    • +1 for every correct answer
    • -0.25 for each wrong answer

2. Skill Test

Candidates shortlisted in a 1:3 ratio from CBT will be called for a skill test focused on practical electrical maintenance tasks. Final merit will be calculated with 80% weightage to CBT and 20% to the skill test.

  • UR/SEBC: ₹797 (₹675 + ₹122 GST)
  • SC/ST/PwBD (Odisha only): ₹443 (₹375 + ₹68 GST)
